The Laboratory generates and stores research points. These can be used to research new trains or train upgrades for your current Era.
When you join a server in a later Era, the laboratory will start at the following level:

The table shows:
- Upgrade cost ($) – The cost of upgrading.
- Upgrade prestige – The prestige points you get from upgrading to this level.
- Upgrade base time – The base time for upgrading (i.e. without the reduction you get from your Construction Yard or speed increasement of fast servers).
- Minutes for 1 RP – The time (in minutes) it takes to generate one research point (RP), without and with Researcher bonus (gold colored) and a percentage increase compared to previous level.
- Max RP – The maximum number of research points you can store and a percentage increase compared to previous level.
- Average improvement – The average percentage of RP production and max RP storage combined.
- Time until full – The time it takes before you reach the limit for stored research points, without and with Researcher bonus (gold colored).
- PR/day – The number of research points generated per 24 hour period, without and with Researcher bonus (gold colored), rounded to nearest whole number.
